Team Nova Scotia is coming home!  We are in the final stages of our competitions today with Closing Ceremonies tonight at 5:00 pm.  From there we will head back to the hotel, prepare for the victory dance then begin our journey home.

We will be arriving in Halifax Westjet Flight 0622 at 10:14 am on Sunday Morning..come meet us and say congrats to the team.

To date we have 36 medals (Gold 5, Silver 14, Bronze 17) with a few more expected this afternoon.

On February 26th, 51 members of Team Nova Scotia will depart for St Albert Alberta to represent the province of Nova Scotia in the 2012 Special Olympics Canada National Winter Games from February 28 – March 3, 2012.

We are 34 athletes, 11 coaches and 6 mission staff strong and will compete in floor hockey, curling, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, speed skating, and figure skating. This team is provincial in nature with representatives from many places including Dartmouth, Halifax, Sydney Mines, Berwick, New Minas, Coldbrook, Kentville, Avonport, Kingston, Harrietsfield, Bridgewater, Shelburne, Truro and Harmony.

Team Nova Scotia will join the ten other provinces and two territories, which include over 700 athletes and coaches as each Province prepare for a week- long event full of great competition.  The National Winter games is the pinnacle event that many athletes have been training hard for during weekly practices and many regional sporting competitions over this past year.

Successful athletes will have the opportunity to advance to the 2013 World Winter Games in South Korea.

You can follow our progress while away in St Albert right here on our website.  We will be providing daily updates on results, photos and stories for each sport on their respective pages.  To access this information simply click on the corresponding sport photo below or the sport link to the left on the menu bar.

We look forward to sharing our success and stories with you.

UPDATE JANUARY 27TH @ 8:45 PM

We have arrived!  After an inspiring send off and a long day of travel, team NS is in Alberta! We arrived at the hotel last night at approximately 11 pm local time to some nice hot pizza and comfy warm beds.  Everyone was pretty tired from our long journey, so it was not long before not a sound was heard - not even a mouse :]

Today, Monday was a relaxing day for the team as we eagerly awaited the arrival of the other teams so we could make new friends and say hi to old ones.  Many of us hit up the West Edmonton Mall for a day of shopping and thrills.  Some of us were even brave enough to ride the roller coaster there!  We then returned to our hotel where we had a great supper and now, everyone is anxiously awaiting a practice day tomorrow and then the Opening Ceremonies tomorrow night!  Competitions will start Wednesday.

Our many thanks to CTV, Global, CBC the Chronicle Herald, C100 and our partners Lite 92.9 for the great exposure on our send off.  Thanks for helping us keep our friends and families updated on our journey.

Also, many thanks to those who are sending along team emails.  Keep them coming to specialolympicsns@hotmail.ca
For those who have not sent any - PLEASE DO!  The athletes love getting them.

Beginning Wednesday, keep your eyes on the individual sports pages (links below and above) for sport specific stories.
