It is a Gold Medal!
When he departed Halifax, Paul Jocys was hoping just to have a great experience and focus on executing his routine without flaws. Capturing Gold was a dream. Well this dream became a reality in Korea!
Skating in the Men’s Level 3, 30+ category, Paul defeated his competitors, Team Austria and Team USA, to capture one of the current 44 Gold Medals for Team Canada. A relative new comer to the Special Olympics movement, his success is celebrated with pride by both himself and his coach, Mary Ann Crowley. Having earned his first spot on Team Nova Scotia at the 2012 National Games in St. Albert his double gold performance earned him the points needed to advance to Team Canada 2013.
Team Canada’s total medal count was an impressive 109 medals (44 Gold, 44 Silver, 21 Bronze). Success like this could not have been achieved without the tremendous support shown to our athletes by their coaches, mission staff and volunteers. Our heartfelt thanks to Cathy Mason, Shanna Thompson, Mary Ann Crowley and Michael Greek for their dedication to the team both in the many months preceding the Games, and the weeks during.
