Michelin Torch Run 25th Anniversary a Success!Jun. 14, 2012
For 25 years Michelin North America has provided Special Olympics Nova Scotia continuous support. This partnership, which extends beyond just funding, has lead to their designation as THE Founding Partner of SONS.
In this role, employees from Michelin have become an integral part of the volunteer aspect of SONS in our Regions, on our Board of Directors, and at our Summer Games. Over the years, Michelin employees at each plant have spearheaded two unique initiatives in support of SONS. These initiatives, the Michelin Torch Run and School Program, work to spread awareness of acceptance and inclusion across Nova Scotia.
Since 1999, outstanding Michelin employees from each plant annually organize several school visits in their region, to which they are accompanied by a representative from SONS. This presentation includes a brief summary of Special Olympics and also addresses related topics such as volunteerism and the benefits of inclusion through sport. Since the program’s inception, approximately 78,000 students have attended these presentations. A few weeks after the regional presentations end, each plant hosts a Torch Run, often returning to the same schools they visited with the School Program.
The Michelin Torch Run connects Michelin employees, students, community members, as well as Special Olympics Athletes across the province each year.
Thank you Michelin for 25 years of greatness!
